Tatesville was a quiet little town just east of Atlanta, home to the Gaither clan. Emmett Gaither loved his family and his life. It was perfect. Being the only gay son had its challenges but his family stood by him and loved him all the same. He never dreamed that his world would be turned upside side by the new banker in town. The sexy blonde man made Emmett’s blood boil. But he wouldn't be interested in a redneck man like Emmett? Would he?
Alex King had lived a gypsy life. Leaving the northwest, he thought he wanted to live in the bustling city of Atlanta. Still he wasn’t happy, so he jumped on the change to move to a quieter life in Tatesville. He was sure he’d never meet a good guy in the little southerntown. Imagine his surprise when one of his customers wanted to fix him up with her SON! Had he move to the Twilight Zone? If so, he was happy to live there when the customer’s tall, dark and handsome walked into his bank…now what?

I decided to give Mathew Ortiz another go. I loved his Renovating Love series and the Cookies series, but hated Costa Living two part serialised story that was over-priced and under-delivered as a story. Here however, he seems to have returned to writing a good stand-alone book that looks destined to be part of a series. He even incorporates a couple of references to a Renovating Love character. I was a little dismayed at the start with all the Southern twanging going on and the spelling mistakes through the book (one example is sweat potato...ewwwww) - needed more editing. But although the spelling mistakes grate like nails down a blackboard it didn't take away from the story once I could get into the characters and ignore the obvious attempts at down-home linguistics.
The story is very good. The story is told from the point of view of Emmett (Em) and from Alex. This is not always my favourite mode of story telling but it doesn't really detract from the flow of the story. Small town outside Atlanta, hard-working well-to-do family full of love and their own issues and boy meets boy (through Emmett's Momma - who asks Alex if he is a homosexual). Not every day a Mother asks someone if they are homosexual to ascertain whether he is a dating prospect for her big beautiful bear of a son - but hey a love connection is a love connection. There is acceptance within the family and most of the community. There is a lot of genealogy given, and holy hell you practically need to start writing a family tree to keep track of all the names. Throw a few begat's in there and you get the idea it's bigger than Ben-Hur.
I see a minimum of two more stories with Alex's friend Hale and Em's cousin Bumper plus Em's Uncle Eli and Oscar Hernandez (who works for Cormac O'Malley-Ong who we met in the Renovating Love series); and even perhaps Mike Wirbowski the dishy cop from Atlanta. But with a family bigger than Texas there could be many more in the series.
One thing I didn't like was the use of a LOT OF CAPITALS to denote yelling - which he does a lot. Or it denotes a loud noise - like Hale hammering on the bathroom door then yelling at Alex or Alex/Emmett to stop having sex in the bathroom.
Quite a good rounded story, back to his good writing. Nice job Mathew Ortiz, I am glad I gave you another try. This is where your writing should be - a couple of copy editing tweaks and less of the down-home slang and twang and it would be perfect. But the story was good - you nailed it.

Love and Salvage Loving Emmett edition by Mathew Ortiz William Bristol Lisa Worrall Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Remember, in my world, Three Stars is "I liked it; I enjoyed it." Almost never give five. SO this is not a bad review, not in the least.

For what it is, a lovely, sweetly romantic story. You don't get open-hearted rednecks all that often in m/m stories, and that made this particularly adorable. It totally follows the formula you expect, and leaves you with a door opening into another (equally unlikely and romantic) story to follow. I had to fall for Emmett, and his family. If only rural Georgia was filled with families as understanding and accepting as Emmett's. The world would be a better place.
Loving Emmett is a down home southern story. Emmett is one of four siblings to the highly respected Gaither family.
With two older brothers and a twin sister Emmett had to face the fact that he was Gay . The story is a fast read but hits on everything needed. Loving Emmett is book one of the Love and Salvage Series you will see how two total opposites meet and in the most unexpected way , which I have to say made me laugh so hard but in a great way . This story was very enjoyable following Emmett and Alex's relationship. It's the first book I have read from this Author and I will definitely be reading his other books . Defiantly a five star read . There are many funny quick liners in this book and then you also have the great sex also to me this book was very well balanced and very enjoyable
I liked the plotline. It's your basic romance with a few bumps along the way. Family and friends of which some you like and some you don't.

I just can't stand the errors!!! I'll generally take one star for about five errors, two for more. With over 36 errors in the first 25% of the book, I struggled not to give this story one star.

It's a shame because I enjoyed the characters and would like to revisit them in the other stories. I did make the mistake of purchasing the two sequels and will hesitate to read them because of the errors. I like to sink into a story when reading and the errors here kept jolting me out the story making it an unpleasant experience.

I did try to locate a website/e-mail for the author. I wanted to sincerely offer to proofread (for free), but I couldn't locate one. I hope he lets someone help make his hard work more enjoyable for readers.
OK, once you adapt your mind to overlooking the editing issues (and it takes some work) you’ll find a good story here. Emmett is a young, handsome, sweet country boy who is practically perfect in every way, except for the fact that he sweats like a beast (Eww. Insert yuck face here) He also suffers from a little low self-esteem because he's been rejected a few times. Alex is an up and coming professional who works at the local bank in Tatesville and has practically adopted his best friend, Hale. When Emmett’s mom asks him to drive her to the bank, she notices the way Em and Alex are staring at each other and decides to play match maker. The two hit it off immediately and are perfect for each other. And for the record, Alex finds the sweating sexy. (Additional yuck face) They only encounter a few minor bumps in the road, like Emmett’s homophobic uncle and semi-homophobic brother, but that’s fine because not all love stories have to be chocked full of angst. Em’s whole family, other than those 2 idiots, is pretty likeable.

As far as Hale goes, he is a complete jacka** who as far as I’m concerned could’ve been left out altogether. He’s selfish, rude, and inconsiderate, and is the cause of Alex nearly being assaulted (and in my opinion the cause of Emmett’s as well). Hale is set up to become the love interest for Em’s cousin Bumper, but they might as well have just left Bumper single.

At the end of this book, instead of the epilogue being about Emmett and Alex, which would’ve made more sense, it introduces the storyline of the next book, which is about Emmett’s uncle Elijah and Oscar Hernandez.
